The ace Indian all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar is set to make her WBBL debut with the Brisbane Heat.
The 22-year-old will be the third Indian after Smriti Mandhana in 2016 and Poonam Yadav in 2021 to play for the Heat. Her outstanding athleticism and all-round impact in this year's 50-over World Cup highly impressed Heat's coach Ashley Noffke.
Just ahead of the CWG, Vastrakar contracted Covid-19 and is currently recovering from it. It has delayed her entry to Birmingham and might hamper India's combinations before the mighty opening clash against Australia.
Vastrakar joins as the second overseas player to the Brisbane Heats team after New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr. They have now announced 12 of their 15-member squad. Alongside Vastrakar, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur is another Indian player who is set to participate in the 8th edition of the WBBL. She has signed a 2-year contract with the Melbourne Renegades. The WBBL-08 is going to take place from October 13 to November 20.
