The 2nd match of the Commonwealth Games Qualifiers was between Sri Lanka, who recently missed out on a qualification spot for the 50-overs World Cup, and Scotland who were the winners of the ICC T20 World Cup Europe Qualifiers 2021.

Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first. Captain Chamari Athapaththu led the charge with the bat as she reached her 50 in just 26 balls. The Chamari-storm eventually ended on 86, but it was enough to help her team to put up a mammoth total of 182 for 4 after in 20 overs. This was Sri Lanka’s highest 1st innings total in Women’s T20Is.

On the other hand, Scotland failed miserably in the run chase. A target of 183 was always going to be a big ask in itself and the Wildcats capitulated for 73 despite getting a good start of 47/1 in 5.3 overs. Ellen Watson was the only batter who offered some resistance with her knock of 30 (26), but picked up a leg-cramp while running and had to retire hurt. Sri Lanka won by a huge margin of 109 runs which will boost their NRR significantly.

Sri Lankan debutant Sachini Nisansala picked up 2 wickets on debut which included the big scalp of the Scotland skipper Kathryn Bryce. It was the Lankan skipper Athapaththu who got the Player of the Match for her belligerent batting display.

Brief Scorecard:

Sri Lanka - 182/4 (20 overs) C. Athapaththu 86 (45), N. de Silva 23 (16); K. McGill 1/4 (1), K. Fraser 1/27 (4)

Scotland - 73/9 (12.1 overs) E. Watson 30 (26), S. Bryce 11 (6); S. Nisansala 2/10 (2.1), A. Kanchana 2/20 (3)
