In Game 7 of the CWG Qualifiers, table-toppers Sri Lanka were up against Malaysia at the Kinrara Oval ground.

After winning the toss, Malaysia decided to bowl first. Sri Lanka started off their innings well as Chamari Athapaththu gave them a good start of 40 runs in 5 overs till she got out on 30 in just 17 balls. It seemed that Malaysia have been able to put a lid on the Sri Lankan batting after Chamari’s dismissal as they only could add only 48 runs more to the tally after 12 overs.

It was Harshitha Madavi and Nilakshi de Silva who rose up to the occasion. With the blistering knocks of 65* off 42 and 49* off 31 from the bats of Madavi and de Silva respectively, Sri Lanka put up a huge total of 175/3.

Sri Lanka made 105 runs in the last 10 overs. The 4th wicket partnership was 87 off just 46 balls and both the top scorers, Madavi and Silva remained unbeaten. In the 17th over, Madavi brought up her maiden international half-century and a total of 26 boundaries were hit in the whole Sri Lankan innings.

Malaysia had a huge task on their hands to chase down the target of 176 at 8.8 RPO. But, this was always going to be a tough ask. Sri Lankan bowlers ran over their batting order and restricted them to 82 for 7 in 20 overs.

The only resistive force in the entire Malaysian batting was Winifred Durasingam, who scored 42* off 54. Kumari and Ranasinghe took 2 wickets each and ensured an emphatic victory of 93 runs over Malaysia. Harshitha Madavi was adjudged as the Player of the Match for her 65* (42).

Brief Scorecard:

Sri Lanka- 175/3 (20 overs) H. Madavi 65* (42), N. de Silva 49*(31); N. Atiela 1/21 (2), N. Syuhada 1/25 (4)

Malaysia – 82/7 (20 overs) W. Duraisingam 42* (54), A. Natsya 10 (15); S. Kumari 2/12 (4), O. Ranasinghe 2/14 (4)
