The Commonwealth Games is now at the halfway mark. After the conclusion of the first 5 games, both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have won their respective two games so far and are on 4 points each. But with a better NRR, Sri Lanka are at the top of the table.
In Game 6, Scotland was up against Kenya. Due to the rain, the toss was delayed, and later the play was reduced to 8 overs per side. Kenya won the toss and invited Scotland to bat first.
The rain-affected game kicked off in a flaring fashion with 2 boundaries and a wicket of Sarah Bryce in the first 3 deliveries of the inning. From there, Scotland recovered well and after 5 overs, they were on 41 runs. They snatched 16 runs off the 5th over, but Sarah Wetoto stopped the carnage in the very next over by taking the wicket of Scotland skipper Kathryn Bryce (27 off 19).
Abbi Aitken-Drummond (21 off 15) continued the flow of runs and steered Scotland’s innings to 70 for 3 in 8 overs. In the final over, Drummond scored a four and then followed it up with a six to end the innings on a high.
Kenya didn’t start their innings well as were 2 wickets down for 15 very early. Again, the Scottish teenager Katherine Fraser was the one outfoxing the Kenyan batters as she took 2 wickets in 2 balls. Kenya couldn’t do much in front of Scotland’s disciplined bowling as they fell short by 16 runs. Maqsood held her nerves at the end and only gave 7 runs in the last 2 overs and also took the wicket of Ngoche.
In the Kenyan innings, the biggest highlight was Sarah Wetoto’s innings of 24 off 16 at a strike rate of 150, consisting of one four and two sixes.
